What this site collects, and why.
This is a personal site. Here is exactly what it collects. It is a short list.

Who is responsible
I am. namase.com is my personal site, and I, Rajesh Namase, decide what happens to anything it collects. For anything about your data, write to me through the contact page.
Analytics
I use Google Analytics to see which entries people read and roughly where they come from. How much it records depends on where you are and on what your browser asks for.
If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, or your browser sends Global Privacy Control, analytics storage stays off and no analytics cookie is set on your device. Google still receives a signal that a page was viewed, with details such as the time, your browser type and the page that sent you. It sets no cookie and gets nothing that recognizes you from one visit to the next.
Everywhere else, Google Analytics sets two cookies, _ga and _ga_LK0VVET39T. They last up to two years and let it tell a returning reader from a new one.
Google Analytics keeps the detailed event data for two months. Google Signals and every advertising feature are switched off, and Google says Google Analytics does not log or store IP addresses. My reason for using it is a legitimate interest in knowing what people read, kept small by these settings. I do not run ads or any other tracker.
Newsletter
If you subscribe, your email address goes to Kit, the service that sends the emails, and nowhere else. It is used only to send you new entries, and I rely on your consent to do that. Every email has an unsubscribe link. When you unsubscribe, Kit stops emailing you but keeps a record of the address in my account until I delete it. Ask and I will delete it.
Contact form
What you type in the contact form is emailed to my own mailbox on Google Workspace and kept there until I delete it. It is used to reply to you and is not added to any list.
Comments
If you comment on an entry, your name, email address and comment are stored in a database on Cloudflare. A scrambled version of your IP address is stored with them, and I use it only to slow down spam. Your name and comment are published once I approve them. Your email address is never published and is used only to tell me a comment is waiting. All of it stays for as long as the comment does. Ask and I will delete a comment of yours, and everything stored with it.
What stays on your device
Your browser keeps two small settings for this site in local storage: whether you picked the light or dark theme, and which entries you have read. They never leave your device, and clearing this site's data in your browser removes them. The site sets no cookies of its own, and its fonts are served from namase.com itself, so reading a page does not contact Google Fonts.
Who processes it, and where
- Google (Analytics, and the Workspace mailbox) in the United States, under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its UK and Swiss extensions.
- Cloudflare (hosting, and the comments database) worldwide, under the same framework. Like any web host, it handles your IP address to deliver pages and to block attacks.
- Kit (the newsletter) in the United States. Kit's data processing terms use the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, with the UK and Swiss additions, for data sent from Europe.
Your rights
Ask me and I will tell you what I hold about you, correct it, or delete it, and you can object to any of the uses above. Use the contact page. If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland and think I have handled your data wrongly, you can also complain to the data protection authority where you live.
Changes
If any of this changes, this page changes first, and the date at the top moves with it.
